Tips for Sustainable Mentoring

Mentoring Virtually

  • The nature of meeting virtually will naturally reduce your Carbon Footprint and travel emissions.

Use Layers

  • Keep warmer (or cool off) during your virtual meetings with layers rather than using heating or air-conditioning.

Unplug

  • Remember to unplug your laptop, iPad or phone once it has finished charging. This saves on energy and prolongs the life of the battery.

Turn-off

  • Switch your devices to 'Shut Down’ or 'Power Off’ when you've finished using them. This will reduce the need to charge the device whilst saving on energy and CO₂ emissions.

Shared Drive

  • We recommend you create a live shared document for the two of you to track and reflect on the mentoring relationship together rather than using handwritten notes or notepads. This will encourage a collaborative relationship and reduce the waste created.
