Benefits of Being a Mentor

If you’re considering becoming a mentor in the Otolo Mentoring Programme, here are a few reasons why it is a great decision.

  1. You’ll gain new perspectives and insight into your industry

When you are matched with a mentee, you spend valuable time speaking and listening to someone talk about their goals and visions for their future. This means you’ll see a very different perspective or view of your industry and be exposed to different opinions and thoughts.

2. You’ll learn more about your profession

Similarly to the point above, you will learn new things from your mentee. Whether that be how things are done differently compared to when you were in their position or how their experience provides you will gain valuable knowledge.

3. Develop and gain new skills

When you’re mentoring someone, you naturally develop and work on your communication, listening and leadership skills. Mentoring requires you to be a good listener and to provide helpful feedback. These skills and practices are key to becoming a good leader.

4. Build your confidence

Watching someone flourish and progress with their personal goals as a result of your support helps you gain confidence in your mentoring and leadership skills.

5. Reinforces your knowledge

By supporting someone with their career goals and challenges you’re constantly drawing on your own knowledge and experiences to provide the right kind of support. This results in your knowledge being cemented and reinforced.

6. You’re giving back to the hospitality industry

The hospitality industry is fighting against a lot of challenges this year, and we’re determined to provide as much tangible support as possible. By giving up 2 hours of your time a month, you are helping those entering the industry and already working in it to develop and build confidence in their career.

It truly is a wonderful thing to do.
